Since our beginnings on Capitol Hill more than a century ago, The Donohoe Companies has been a well-respected member of the community. Our roots run deep throughout the greater Washington region. Our emphasis on the city and closer suburbs means that our development occurs largely in urban infill or "greyfield" locations, many conveniently close to Metrorail stations.
Donohoe was one of the first to see the potential of vibrant, mixed-use projects that unite office, residential, retail and other uses. In pursuing these types of projects, we have developed, constructed and managed buildings that foster community growth and promote pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods.
Our investment in our community goes beyond business.
We’ve donated more than $750,000 toward the new home for Hospitality High School of Washington, building out their new facility, which opened on September 20th, 2007. Hospitality High educates students – most below the poverty line – to begin careers in the hospitality sector. Hospitality High has a stellar 100% graduation rate, with 80% of its students going on to college (as compared to 45% citywide).
The Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities recognized our Donohoe Hospitality division as their 2006 "Employer of the Year." Donohoe works with the Foundation to find meaningful employment for youth with disabilities.
To help inner-city schoolchildren, Donohoe has donated more than $500,000 to renovate St. Augustine School.
Supporting our nation's military and military families in need, we have given away hundreds of nights at our hotels. We work with the Yellow Ribbon Fund and the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund so the families of injured military men and women can visit their loved ones during their medical treatment in the nation's capital.
But we’re most proud of our employees’ giving of their own time – feeding the homeless, leading community cleanups and mentoring children.
